This Mountaineer Pinot Noir pays homage to the pioneering spirit and sense of adventure displayed by mountain climbers confronting the forces of nature and celebrating the beauty and grandeur of the New Zealand Southern Alps. The preparation, passion and commitment necessary to grow and make Pinot Noir in Central Otago mirror the challenges faced by these pioneering mountaineers.

Tasting Notes

This vintage presents a vibrant, bright bouquet of red berries, sweet plum, dried herbs, subtle spice, and floral nuances. The palate is silky smooth, with flavours of ripe raspberry, cherry, and strawberry leading the way, complemented by a lovely, rounded mouthfeel. The wine's texture is balanced by a touch of spicy oak and supple tannins, which provide structure and depth. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of fruit and spice. A harmonious and elegant expression of the varietal, with a delicate interplay of fruit, oak, and tannin.

Reviews

Sam Kim - Wine Obit | 93 Points 5 Star

It's elegantly fragrant on the nose, showing sweet plum, cherry, floral, subtle spice, and toasted almond notes. The palate displays succulent fruit flavours with a fleshy texture and beautifully integrated tannins, finishing silky-smooth and lingering. At its best: now to 2029. Medium-light ruby red, even colour throughout. The bouquet is gently alluring, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, floral and delicate spice.

Candice Chow - Raymond Chan Wine Reviews 91 Points 4 Stars

Medium-bodied aromas of strawberry and raspberry intertwined with cinnamon, nutmeg and cherry blossom. The silky mouthfeel carries fresh acidity with vibrancy and elegance to a pleasing finish. Match with duck and pork over the next 3+ years. Fermented to 13.5% alc. 18+/20 (91 pts)

Stephen Wong - The Real Review

Vibrant and detailed with arresting floral and Szechuan peppercorn perfume this is a lacy and delicately pretty pinot noir which has powder-soft tannins with pronounced intricacy contributed by very fine acidity. A convincing and effective rendition of the more ethereal and light-footed expression of pinot noir which will provide delicious drinking over the near term.
